These 6 Halloween-Ready Submarkets Keep Renters, Trick-or-Treaters Happy

When renting a single-family home for your family, it’s important to factor in a variety of market conditions in the local area. During the Halloween season, safety becomes a high priority for renters sending their children out to trick-or-treat.

In the spirit of Halloween, HomeUnion Research Services has analyzed the rental markets on its investment platform for trick-or-treaters. Each metro was ranked on median home prices, neighborhood density, neighborhood safety, proximity to the nearest cemetery and rents, just a few of the data points the company analyzes to provide both renters and investors with in-depth market insight. Median home price was the heaviest weighted factor in the study.

“For this study, we applied micro-level data used in creating our Neighborhood Investment Ranking to help kids and families find the best places for trick-or-treating in their local communities,” explains Steve Hovland, director of Research for HomeUnion. Communities with safety issues, and those with homes that are too far apart for children to trick-or-treat were eliminated from the list. To add an element of spookiness, HomeUnion Research Services calculated how close the nearest cemetery is to each neighborhood.

A neighborhood in the Chicago metro area will surely keep trick-or-treaters happy this Halloween season. With a median home price exceeding $1.2 million in Kenilworth, Ill., home values and candy should be at a premium in this top zip code.
