Cincinnati Among Fastest Growing Midwest Economies; Payroll Gains Fuel Renter Demand

Cincinnati’s rental market remains on solid footing due to healthy job gains. The metro’s largest employers, the University of Cincinnati and grocer Kroger, provide jobs for over 32,000 local residents. Other firms are also expanding staffing levels. IT and digital marketing firm CDK Global, for example, will bring 1,000 jobs to a new customer service center in Norwood in 2016. A number of new call centers are also setting up in the metro. Barclays will hire 1,500 employees at a new call center in the riverfront, and StarTek will bring 680 new positions at its call center in Hamilton. Meanwhile, General Electric Co. will employ thousands in downtown Cincinnati by 2017. With 1.9 percent employment growth in 2014, the metro was among the fastest growing in the Midwest and the current unemployment rate is the lowest in over ten years.
