The Zillow Home Price Index rose by 1.3% in the third quarter, the biggest gain since 2006. The median home value increased to $153,800 from $151,800. However, the price increase is varied across various regions of the country. THE FHFA Home Price Index rose 0.7% in August. The gain is 4.7% on the year-over-year basis.

Freddie Mac predicts the housing will give a boost to the economy in the second half of the year similar to the contribution in the first half and the mortgage rates will remain around 3.5% through 2013.
